Forestry

Objectives and Skills

Train qualified technicians with technical and scientific capacity to be able to provide services in the various aspects of Agro-forestry Sciences, having to be able to:

  • interpret, execute, implement projects and make decisions with autonomy;
  • draw up plans for the installation, ordering and management of production systems and be able to prepare guiding plans for forest management;
  • take autonomous and correct decisions in the areas of forestry and forest planning from a perspective of sustainable management of resources;
  • evaluate natural resources and be able to design their exploitation from an economic and sustainable perspective;
  • apply the current technological tools complementary to the development of professional activity, in the areas of forest inventory, forest exploitation and controlled burning;
  • integrate agroforestry products into distribution and commercialization chains, based on marketing, innovation and entrepreneurship strategies.

The future graduate will have skills in several areas such as: forestry, forest fires, geographic information systems, forest inventory and management of a forest company.

The degree in Agronomic Engineering – Forestry is endowed with solid training in:

  • basic knowledge in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Technologies necessary for their area of intervention.
  • complementary, in social, human and business sciences.
  • advanced, in the areas of forestry production, plant multiplication, planning and ordering of agro-forestry and landscape resources, forest exploitation, silviculture of green spaces, forest fires and geographic information systems.

Phytotechnics

Objectives and Skills

Train qualified technicians with technical and scientific capacity to be able to provide services in the various aspects of Phytotechnics, having to be able to:

  • interpret, execute, implement projects and make decisions with autonomy;
  • take autonomous and correct decisions in the area of fruit growing, horticulture and floriculture;
  • conceive and execute irrigation projects and installations;
  • properly manage soil and water nutrition;
  • to conceive and execute entrepreneurship projects in fruit growing, horticulture and floriculture;
  • perform direction and management activities in agricultural and wine companies;
  • adapting to the constant evolution of the sector and markets in the fruit and vegetable sector;

Engineer Marco Ribeiro has a degree in Forestry Engineering, from the Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu, since 2012. As an entrepreneur he works in the private sector and created his own company in the forestry sector and environmental resources.
